This visit route at the Penascosa rock art site is similar to the daytime visit, with the rocks and motifs observed. The night visit aims to create the best possible conditions for a proper appreciation of the Paleolithic art of the Côa.
By shining a strong light at a low angle over the engravings, creating light/shadow effects, it is possible to highlight the engraved motifs, making them "emerge" from the rock surface. By moving the light source, it is also possible to emphasize certain motifs in relation to others, "isolating" them in the apparent confusion created by the intentional overlap of motifs, a typical representation technique in Paleolithic art.
The easy and safe access to the visitable rocks of the Penascosa site, set in the calm and serene environment of this Côa river beach, makes it the ideal location for this particular type of visit. Full moon nights are especially pleasant, particularly on the warm nights of the Côa region, which are frequent between Spring and Autumn, making the river and the hills outlined in the landscape visible.
